JAŠA, UNTITLED, 2017

Putting my right hand inside my pocket, a hidden thought channels through my brain. I then quickly put the left one to wake up a different stream. As they braid up in my mind, a question throbs in my veins:”What makes dozens out of nothing?”

“Disappointment and rage,” streams the other part, as voices multiply, a stroller stops my heist, squealing in my nose: “I am not a seeker, I am none, I’m home, with no need to look for deviant channels, no need to line up in this in-between/s (sometimes even for days, (more than just days)). I shake off his hands and put mine deeper still, in, inside my pockets, stretching apart all of my fingers, tuning in.”

We are so many, so many here and so many lost. But still we shape the air and curve the lines, as these words should never be ignored, by none.”
– JAŠA, 11.21.2016

UNTITLED is a series of performances, actions and interventions that JAŠA started in 2015. “We will never shut up, as we are so many, that is why I asked you to do this. This particular action, this time, within and without.” After two years his message is still and even more relevant, for individual situations and for those of communities that are, or should be. Facing a new period of celebrating the Ego-per se, critical distance and honesty are an imperative.

JAŠA (SLO, 1978, lives and works in New York and Ljubljana) studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice and has since been a unique presence in Europe’s and US artistic landscape. One of Slovenia’s most prolific and critically recognized contemporary artists, JAŠA is driven by his rhapsodic interpretations of situation, narrative, sculpture and performance. Through his alchemistic connection with material and content, JAŠA transforms spaces into experiences, driving them toward their poetic and aesthetic potentials. Pushing artistic boundaries through uncompromising vision for almost two decades, JAŠA has created a rich and remarkable body of work that includes multiple critically acclaimed solo shows and projects in Europe and the US. In his two active studios in New York and Ljubljana, Slovenia, JAŠA has created a unique environment, which allows him to cultivate contextual and visual eventuality integral to his work. His latest projects include Above all we are not done screaming (WhiteBox, New York, 2016), The Relations (Frieze London, 2016), ULAY & JAŠA / Cutting Through the Clouds of Myth (Kustera Projects Red Hook, Frieze New York, 2016), UTTER / the violent necessity for the embodied presence of hope (Pavilion of Slovenia, Venice Biennale, 2015), UNTITLED, 2015 (Krampf Gallery, Istanbul Contemporary, 2015), Crystal C (Pioneer Works, New York, 2014).
